GETTING PREPARED FOR THE EXAM AT THE DUTCH EMBASSY

The Basisexamen inburgering is being taken for the purpose of obtaining a residence, work or study permit in the Netherlands. The exam is mandatory for everyone who wants to integrate into the Dutch society. The exam is taken at the Dutch embassy and the application is submitted at www.naarnederland.nl.

Preparation for the Basisexamen inburgering involves 20 lessons, 60+ minutes each, depending on candidates’ level and progress.

The exam consists of three parts

  1. Kennis van de Nederlandse Samenleving (KNS)
    (a test on Dutch history and society)
  2. Spreekvaardigheid
    (oral test)
  3. Leesvaardigheid
    (text reading and comprehension)

The Kennis van de Nederlandse Samenleving consists of 100 questions about Dutch history and society out of which 30 will appear in the test. This part of the exam takes 30 minutes and is computer-based.

The Spreekvaardigheid consists of 10 questions requiring oral answers and 12 sentences to be completed orally. This part of the exam takes 30 minutes.

The Leesvaardigheid involves reading and listening to 30 words, reading of 6 texts and providing answers to 12 questions related to the texts. This part of the exam takes 35 minutes and requires no writing. Everything is done with the click of a mouse.

The parts of the exam can be spaced out or taken all at once in a single day.
